Sienna's Keynote Presentation

Sienna and Jade co-founded #notsilentbecause to end the stigma felt by sexual assault survivors and make Boise State a safer place for all students, faculty, and staff. Through sharing stories and creating allies, #notsilentbecause encourages survivors to define themselves through the power of their voice rather than the actions of the past. By reclaiming their voice, assault survivors reclaim their lives by relearning acceptance, forgiveness, love, worth, value, and respect.

#notsilentbecause began as a student-led program to educate the Boise State community about sexual assault and the importance of consent, and has since sparked a campus-wide movement. Now, #notsilentbecause is in the process of becoming an institutionalized part of the university. Sienna and Jade are grateful to have the opportunity to extend their outreach through The Ethos Project.

About Sienna

Picture
Sienna George is a junior pursuing a degree in Communication and Sociology with an emphasis in digital media and journalism. Sienna was born and raised in Boise, Idaho where her work in service and advocacy first began as a board member of the student-run non-profit organization, One Stone, whose mission is to make students better leaders and the world a better place. She currently serves as an assembly member to the Associated Students of Boise State University (ASBSU), as well as University Innovation Fellows, whose mission is to teach students how to become agents of change on their university campuses. Sienna believes strongly that every voice matters and that every voice should be heard. She hopes to pursue a degree in law following graduation in order to advocate on behalf of those who have been silenced [often] by no fault of their own.
