Donovan's PresentationDonovan’s Boise State educational experience expanded when he worked through a project as a Teaching Assistant that connected him to the Albertson’s Library Makerlab. Housed in the Makerlab is a student organization called the Creative Technologies Association (CTA). The CTA is a group of students that work collaboratively to use new technology in fun and inventive ways. The CTA and the Makerlab promote a community of experiential learning, willingness to fail, and successful collaboration. Donovan believes that these are all things that high school students need more access to, and has decided to begin inviting students into that space to be able to actively engage in making collaborative projects; to get used to working with others; learning from failure; and being present in a space that fosters innovative thinking. Donovan intends to work through a human-centered design process, utilizing the voice of high school students to collaboratively design a program that gives them access to the Makerlab; their community, their wealth of knowledge, and their technology.

Donovan is currently a Psychology Major, the Community Engagement Officer of the Creative Technologies Association (CTA), and a Boise State University Innovation Fellow (UIF). Donovan has been in Boise for a long time; he graduated from Timberline High School in 2013, and earned a Sociology Associate’s Degree at the College of Western Idaho. He has grown his community connections since connecting with the Albertson’s Library Makerlab, which began when he created a 3D-printable model of the normal distribution with the goal of making statistics more accessible to the visually impaired (please take a look at this work by following this link here. The connections Donovan has with the library and the College of Innovation and Design has helped him grow as a person and as a student, as well as helping him grow the connections he has with his community. He hopes to push for the kind of growth he has felt in his college career into the lives of high school students in the Boise community.
